Q&A: When should a medium withhold a message for a spirit's loved ones?

Here's a question I received recently, and my response:
Q: When should a medium withhold a message for a spirit's loved ones?
A: Sadly, various religions look unfavorably at mediums and the messages they get from spirits. So, you need to be careful and not give a message to someone whose religion will accuse you of "talking to the devil."
I wrote in my book "Lessons Learned from Talking to the Dead" that a man at a wake (in spirit) showed me his fun personality, and then asked if I would tell his wife and children he is still very much alive in the afterlife. However, because his family was conservative Baptist religious followers, I could not. That religion thinks that mediums speak through "the devil."
It's absurd when you're trying to help someone and offer comfort, especially to people you don't know - but you have to let it go. That's what I did.  I had to explain to the spirit at the wake that I could not give the message because of his family's religion, and he understood (although he was disappointed). - It just meant that he would continue to try and let them know he was still around in spirit, but will use other means, hoping they would understand sometime in the future.
So be careful if you have the ability, and try to get a sense about the person for whom the message is intended. Otherwise, although you may have good intentions to help, it may not go over favorably.
